Employment indicators released on Saturday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) show a slight increase in Tunisia’s unemployment rate during the third quarter of the year, rising to 15.4% compared with 15.3% in the second quarter.
The number of unemployed stood at approximately 653,700 people in the third quarter of 2025, marking an increase of 2,600 individuals compared with the previous quarter.
According to the published figures, the unemployment rate among men declined to 12.1% in the third quarter, down from 12.6% in the second quarter. In contrast, unemployment among women rose to 22.4%, compared with 20.9% during the same period.
Unemployment among higher-education graduates also increased, reaching 24.9% in the third quarter of 2025, compared with 24% in the second quarter.
This category recorded a rate of 14.5% among male graduates and 32.3% among female graduates.
The results of the labour force survey for the third quarter of 2025 also indicate a slight decrease in Tunisia’s active population, which totalled 4,259,300 people, down from 4,259,900 in the second quarter—a decline of 600 individuals.
The active population consists of 2,922,500 men (68.6%) and 1,336,800 women (31.4%).
As for the employed population, their number fell to 3,605,600 in the third quarter, down from 3,608,800 in the second quarter, representing a decrease of 3,200 people.
The employed population is composed of 2,558,800 men (71.2%) and 1,036,800 women (28.8%) of the total number of employed persons.
