During the morning of July 26, 2021, vice-president of the House of People’s Representatives Samira Chaouachi and House Speaker Rached Ghannouchi, accompanied by MPs from Ennahdha and other allied parties attempted to access the parliament which was placed under the protection of the Tunisian army.
In an attempt to return to the seat of the assembly, Samira Chaouachi addressed the military saying “we have taken an oath to protect the constitution”. The army’s response was quick and unequivocal “we have taken an oath to protect the Nation”.
