Tunisia-WHO mobilizes 1 mln USD to help Tunisia confront COVID-19

World Health Organisation (WHO) has mobilised nearly one million U.S. dollars to provide Tunisia with protective medical equipment and coronavirus testing supplies to help the country cope with the pandemic, reported Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) agency on Monday.

“The financial support has also been directed to providing continuous training and developing strategies to assist the infected and develop primary health services,” TAP quoted WHO Representative in Tunisia Yves Souteyrand as saying.

Souteyrand said the evolution of the indicators on the epidemiological situation in the country later in May should be observed carefully to decide whether Tunisia will risk a second wave of coronavirus.

The representative warned that if the barrier gestures recommended by the WHO are not respected, including social distancing and wearing masks, the risk of spreading the virus will obviously increase between seven days to two weeks.

In case of a second wave of COVID-19, the Tunisian health system will not be able to cope with a strong pandemic due to a lack of resources, according to Souteyrand.
