Remarking on the Speech of the President of the Republic yesterday before the National Security Council, the head of the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT), Mehdi Jelassi stated that all Tunisians have the right to freely express their opinions.
In a statement made, this Thursday, December 29, 2022, to Tunisie Numérique, Jelassi added that it was more fitting for the Head of State to find relevant solutions to the country’s economic and social crisis rather than delivering a speech of threats to Tunisians.
He likewise indicated that it is natural to fear for press freedom and expression today, particularly in the light of imprisonment threats for many journalists, recalling the imprisonment of 4 journalists since July 25 2021.
