Tunisia-Ziad Dabbar: “state must adopt policy in distributing public advertising” [Video]

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, head of the Tunisian Journalists Syndicate Ziad Dabbar has emphasised the global challenge encountered by traditional media due to a decrease in advertising revenue and the shift of public figures towards new media platforms. This shift poses notable financial difficulties for traditional media institutions by lowering a crucial source of their revenue.

In reaction to these challenges, Dabbar stressed that the sustainability of the press sector and media institutions cannot depend solely on the involvement of celebrities. It advocated for the need for a comprehensive state policy towards the media sector. This includes a strategic approach to distributing public advertising and providing financial support to media organisations.

Dabbar called for state intervention to guarantee that advertising by public institutions is conducted in a manner that respects the rights of journalists and adheres to professional ethics. He underlined that such interventions should have clear goals and be subject to oversight by the involved parties.
