Tunisian Diplomat Mondher Mami Passes Away

    Tunisian diplomat Mondher Mami passed away on Tuesday, marking the loss of a respected figure in the country’s diplomatic corps after a long career dedicated to public service.

    Mami held several prominent positions throughout his professional life, including serving for many years as an advisor to the President of the Republic. He was also Director General of Protocol at the Presidential Palace from 2012 to 2019. In addition, he served as Tunisia’s Deputy Permanent Delegate to UNESCO and as ambassador to Czechoslovakia.

    A Career Defined by Professionalism

    Known for his experience and composure, Mondher Mami earned a reputation for effectively handling sensitive situations, particularly during the presidencies of Moncef Marzouki and Beji Caid Essebsi. His meticulous attention to detail, strict respect for protocol, and proactive approach won him the trust of colleagues and the respect of international partners.

    He played a key role in organizing official visits, both for Tunisian heads of state traveling abroad and for high-profile foreign guests visiting Tunisia. His professionalism garnered recognition from foreign protocol services and diplomatic circles.

    A Legacy of Service

    Mondher Mami was the son of the prominent national activist Dr. Abderrahmane Mami, who was assassinated on July 14, 1954. Alongside his diplomatic career, he also served as president of Avenir Sportif de La Marsa, reflecting his engagement in sports and community life.

    With his passing, Tunisia loses a seasoned diplomat who contributed significantly to strengthening the country’s diplomatic traditions and representing the state with dedication and discretion.
