Tunisian olive oil: a unique compound offers new hope in preventing Alzheimer’s (video)

International olive oil expert Dr Mohamed Bouaziz stated, in a comment to a Tunisie Numérique correspondent, that Tunisian olive oil contains a specific chemical compound that makes it an important factor in reducing the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

His remarks were made on the sidelines of the fourth edition of the international conference “From olive tree to olive oil: towards sustainable production and excellence on the global market”, organised by the Higher Institute of Biotechnology of Sfax.

An international expert highlights a specific compound

According to Dr Mohamed Bouaziz, this chemical compound specific to Tunisian olive oil represents a major scientific and health asset.

He stressed that the specificity of this compound places Tunisian olive oil at the heart of research on the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease.

The expert recalled that Tunisia has a rich and diverse olive-growing heritage, and that showcasing these specific characteristics depends both on scientific research and on better communication about the proven benefits of this product.

    Preventive benefits scientifically demonstrated

Beyond Alzheimer’s disease, Dr Bouaziz emphasised that the benefits of Tunisian olive oil are scientifically proven.

    He notably cited:

its preventive role against several cardiovascular diseases, its contribution to improving concentration in children,as well as its positive impact on regulating blood sugar levels.

These benefits, already documented internationally, confirm, in his view, the status of olive oil as a pillar of a healthy diet and strengthen the case for continuing studies on its long-term effects on health.
