The International Forum on African Women is ongoing in Johannesburg, South Africa, from January 27 to 31, under the theme “African Women: A Force, Their Voices Make Change,” organized by Zanele Dlamini Mbeki, founder of the Women’s Development Bank.
In her opening statements, Dlamini underscored the importance of overcoming barriers hindering the progress of African women and uniting efforts to fight exclusion and violence. She stressed the need to continue striving for gender equality across all spheres of life.
Ria Viega, CEO of the Women’s Development Business Fund, stressed the urgency of involving African women in decision-making processes and empowering them to play pivotal roles in their communities to support their countries’ development on all levels. She also underscored the need to provide African women with opportunities for community engagement and ensure their active participation without discrimination or exclusion.
The forum features the participation of the Tunisian Association for Governance and Gender Equality in Decision-Making Positions (ATGEC), alongside 1,200 women from around 55 African countries.
Amel Sammoud Khomari, President of the Tunisian Feminist Association, showcased the accomplishments and rights of Tunisian women across various sectors. She called for increased efforts to strengthen and expand the gains of Tunisian and African women alike.
On the sidelines of the forum, ATGEC organized an exhibition of traditional Tunisian products, including food, jewelry, and clothing, which captivated participants from across the continent.
