Tunisian-Saudi cooperation: King Salman University Hospital breaks ground on 36-month construction project (video)

    The plot of land earmarked for the construction of the King Salman University Hospital in the governorate of Kairouan was officially handed over on the morning of Thursday, 11 December 2025, in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Health and from the Saudi and Tunisian construction companies.

    The handover ceremony for the site took place this morning, marking a decisive step in the launch of this major hospital project.

    Representatives of the Ministry of Health and of the Saudi and Tunisian contracting firms proceeded with the formalisation of the transfer of the land, which will host this future university reference facility in the Kairouan region.

    A project built to the highest standards

    In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, engineer Khaled Al-Qasbi, CEO of Al-Qasbi Company, underlined the strategic importance of this project.

    He affirmed that the King Salman University Hospital will be built “in line with the highest standards and the most demanding norms”, stressing his team’s determination to carry out the works “as quickly as possible”, while fully complying with technical and quality requirements.

    A hospital under high-level patronage

    Khaled Al-Qasbi pointed out that the project bears the name of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and enjoys the gracious patronage of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is also Prime Minister.

    He added that the project also benefits from the support of the Tunisian authorities, represented by the President of the Republic, Kais Saied, which, in his words, “doubles the level of responsibility to ensure flawless implementation that meets the expectations of both countries”.

    Start of works and project timeline

    The CEO of Al-Qasbi Company announced that construction works will officially begin tomorrow, Friday 12 December 2025. The implementation period for the project has been set at 36 months.
    He reiterated the company’s commitment to fully comply with the specifications and technical requirements, so as to deliver the King Salman University Hospital within the agreed timeframe and in line with the defined standards.

    This major hospital project is part of efforts to strengthen health infrastructure in Tunisia and to develop the supply of university healthcare services, while consolidating Tunisian-Saudi cooperation in the health sector.
