On December 10, 2025, Tunisia joins the rest of the world in commemorating the 77th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the first and most important international human rights document, a fundamental reference for shared universal values, and a legal and ethical framework for enshrining human dignity and inherent, inalienable, and indivisible rights.
Commemorating this occasion presents an opportunity to assess the state of human rights worldwide, the extent of adherence to the letter and spirit of the Declaration, and to urge international efforts to strengthen contractual commitments, enact national legislation, develop enforcement mechanisms, and ensure the achievement of justice.
Tunisia reaffirms its deep belief in the message of this Declaration, which establishes coexistence and peace among peoples, and its unwavering commitment to the human values enshrined in this historic document, which has made human rights a shared heritage of all humanity.
Given the escalating conflicts and humanitarian crises worldwide and the widening development gap between nations, Tunisia emphasizes that the protection of human rights can only be effectively achieved in an environment of security and peace, and within the framework of a just and balanced international system based on solidarity, mutual respect, and the rule of international law.
Tunisia reiterates the importance of strengthening multilateral action and activating the role of the United Nations in conflict prevention and peaceful resolution, thereby consolidating the foundations of collective security and sustainable development.
Tunisia’s deep belief that there is no compromise between rights and freedoms is matched only by its commitment to guaranteeing the essentials of a dignified life for all segments of society and peaceful coexistence among its diverse components.
Because the realization of these rights is linked to the concept of social justice, the State is committed to working towards achieving equality of opportunity, the fair distribution of wealth and resources, access to basic services, and combating discrimination and exclusion in all its forms.
The emergence of a humane society aspiring to a more just world, and capable of action in light of the traditional international community’s inability to fully fulfill its role, offers hope for a renewed awareness of the values of justice and dignity, and of the inviolability of human life, regardless of gender, race, or nationality.
The peoples who took to the streets in demonstrations across the globe to condemn the starvation, forced displacement, ethnic cleansing, and genocide inflicted upon the Palestinian people have demonstrated their rejection of the long-standing historical injustice perpetrated against this defenseless people and the continued denial of their right to exist.
Tunisia reaffirms its principled and unwavering stance on the Palestinian cause and its steadfast support for the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle for self-determination and the establishment of their independent and sovereign State on all of their national territory, with Al Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
