In a statement posted on Facebook, the embassy said the equipment will enhance Tunisia’s capacity to train and qualify law enforcement personnel, particularly by enabling them to obtain certifications in crisis management and specialized security skills. The assistance thus contributes to strengthening security in the region and protecting the safety of both American and Tunisian citizens.
It is worth recalling that, in December 2025, the United States had already provided Tunisia with $1.4 million worth of security equipment as part of its counterterrorism assistance program.
In September 2026, Vice Admiral Jeffrey Anderson, commander of the U.S. Sixth Fleet, discussed with Tunisian Minister of National Defense Khaled Sehili ways in which security cooperation between the United States and Tunisia could contribute to strengthening regional security and stability, in support of the prosperity of both countries.
Naval forces from 13 countries, including the United States and host country Tunisia, conducted joint exercises aimed at preventing and combating transnational threats.
“This year’s Phoenix Express exercise once again demonstrated that when the United States, Tunisia, and our regional allies and partners work together, we can make the region safer and more stable. Stability in the Mediterranean is essential to the prosperity of both the United States and Tunisia,” Ambassador Bazzi said.
