The assistant secretary-general of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), Salah Eddine Salmi, stated that the resignation of the organisation’s secretary-general, Noureddine Taboubi, will become effective on 17 January, in accordance with Article 219 of the internal regulations.
Salmi made the statement while chairing the proceedings of the 28th regional congress of the Sfax Regional Labour Union.
Two missed summonses trigger the 15-day waiting period
In a statement to the regional correspondent of Tunisie Numérique, Salmi explained that Noureddine Taboubi failed to respond to the first summons scheduled for 3 January, and also missed the second summons.
According to Salmi, this situation initiates a 15-day waiting period from that point. Once the period expires, the resignation becomes effective on 17 January and is deemed accepted.
Only one scenario can prevent it: a withdrawal of the resignation
Salmi stressed that the resignation would not be confirmed only in one case: if Noureddine Taboubi withdraws his resignation. He also underlined that Taboubi is the only person concerned by the resignation procedure.
