UK, France, Algeria call urgent Security Council meeting over Gaza

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said on Wednesday that the United Kingdom, France and Algeria have called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council today to address the “dire” humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. He cited the UN’s report that “barely any food” has entered the enclave in the last two weeks.

“Israel must ensure civilians are protected and ensure routes are open to allow life-saving aid through,” Lammy said. He repeated calls for an immediate ceasefire, the provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
