United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed alarm on Monday over the escalating violence in Syria, calling for an immediate halt to the fighting. His spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, emphasized in a press briefing that “all parties” must prioritize the protection of civilians, ensuring their safe passage from conflict zones.
Dujarric also addressed the challenges facing Syria’s political process, noting that various factions from both sides of the conflict have shown reluctance to advance the formation of a constitutional committee.
