On Tuesday, the United States announced the suspension of its technology partnership with the United Kingdom, citing insufficient progress in the implementation of the trade agreements concluded between the two countries.
The surprise announcement was confirmed on X by Michael Kratsios, the White House adviser for science and technology, who stated: “We hope to resume our work with the United Kingdom once they have made substantial progress in implementing their commitments.”
By way of reminder, the partnership covers several cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), civil nuclear energy, and quantum computing.
At the beginning of May, the announcement of a compromise between the United States and the United Kingdom had attracted significant attention, as it marked the first trade agreements concluded by the Trump administration following the introduction of tariffs in early April.
