UN’s Guterres: Attacks on Rafah unacceptable

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres insisted on Friday that “any assault” of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on the Gazan city of Rafah is “unacceptable” due to the heavy presence of Palestinian civilians there as it would cause “another surge of pain and misery when we need a surge in life-saving aid.”

Speaking at the Arab League’s summit in Manama, Bahrain, Guterres urged Israel and Hamas to agree on “the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages. And nothing can justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people.”

“Yet the toll on civilians continues to escalate. Entire families wiped out. Children traumatized and injured for life. People denied access to the very basics for human survival. A looming famine,” he underscored.
