Venezuela: IFJ Condemns Journalist Arrests, warns of serious press freedom violations

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has strongly condemned the recent arrests and restrictions targeting national and international journalists in Venezuela during the inauguration of the National Assembly, warning of a dangerous deterioration in press freedom.

In a clear statement, the IFJ denounced the arbitrary detention of media professionals, restrictions on journalistic work, and barriers to accessing information. The organization stressed that full and unconditional respect for journalism is a fundamental prerequisite for any genuine peace process and for the country’s democratic recovery.

According to the IFJ, suppressing the media and criminalizing journalistic activity only deepens political instability and undermines the public’s right to receive accurate, independent, and pluralistic information.
