Russian President Vladimir Putin is meeting Syrian President Ahmed Charaa this Wednesday, October 15, in Moscow as part of a working visit aimed at developing Russian-Syrian relations and discussing the situation in the Middle East, the Kremlin announced.
In an official statement, the Russian presidency said the talks will focus on “the current state and prospects for the development of Russian-Syrian relations in the political, commercial, economic, and humanitarian fields,” as well as on “the latest developments in the Middle East region.”
Strategic Talks Amid a Tense Regional Context
The meeting comes at a highly sensitive geopolitical moment, marked by ongoing tensions in the Middle East and Moscow’s growing influence in the region.
According to the Kremlin statement, discussions between the two heads of state aim to strengthen the Russian-Syrian strategic partnership, particularly in the areas of economic and security cooperation.
The Syrian Presidency Confirms the Meeting and Highlights Shared Interests
For its part, the Syrian Presidency confirmed the details of the visit on Tuesday evening through a statement carried by the official news agency SANA. The Information Directorate of the Syrian Presidency stated that President Ahmed Charaa will meet Vladimir Putin to “discuss regional and international developments of common interest” and “explore ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the service of their shared interests.”
The Syrian leader will also meet with members of the Syrian community in Russia, a symbolic gesture reflecting the intention to strengthen human and cultural ties between the two nations.
A New Chapter in Russian-Syrian Partnership
This working visit — the first by President Ahmed Charaa to Moscow since taking office — underscores the mutual desire of both capitals to reinforce their long-standing alliance.
It could also pave the way for new economic and technical cooperation agreements, while reaffirming the political convergence between Damascus and Moscow on key regional issues.
