WHO: COVID-19 still a worldwide emergency

The World Health Organization (WHO) stated on Tuesday that COVID-19 is still a worldwide issue, given that the recorded cases increased by 30% in the last two weeks.

Independent experts from the WHO Emergency Committee reasoned that the surge in cases, the highly transmittable Omicron variants, and the pressure on healthcare providers means that the world is still going through the pandemic.

However, the WHO accepted that, with increased immunization, the number of patients who required hospitalization or died has dropped.
