The World Health Organization will “read carefully” the Chinese research which revealed a new type of swine flu, WHO spokesman Christian Lindmeier said on Tuesday.
“We will read carefully the paper to understand what is new. It also highlights we cannot let our guard down on influenza and need to be vigilant and continue surveillance even in the coronavirus pandemic,” he added at a briefing in Geneva.
Earlier, Chinese researchers said they have discovered a new type of swine flu that can infect humans and has “all the essential hallmarks of a candidate pandemic virus.”
