WHO: Virus cases down everywhere but in Europe

The number of infections from COVID-19 registered daily is declining everywhere around the globe, but in Europe, the World Health Organization (WHO) stated on Wednesday.

The agency said 3.1 million new cases were recorded the week before, 1.9 million of those on the Old Continent. It also warned that, in the same period, the figure for deaths linked to the disease fell by 4% around the world but rose by 10% in Europe.

Earlier this month, the WHO reported Europe as being “back at the epicentre of the pandemic” and warned the continent could see “another half a million deaths” by February.
