WTA 500 Berlin: No Upset for Jacquemot, Defeated by Ons Jabeur

Seeing Ons Jabeur—former World No. 2—competing in the qualifying rounds of a WTA 500 tournament may seem surprising, yet it reflects the reality of her recent struggles on the circuit.

Facing the world No. 54 and seventh seed of the German tournament, France’s Elsa Jacquemot put up a valiant fight but ultimately fell to Ons Jabeur in three sets (6-4, 5-7, 7-6 [13-11]) after a hard-fought 2 hours and 29 minutes of play.

In the next round of qualifiers, Jabeur will face China’s Xinyu Wang (WTA No. 48), who edged past Australia’s Talia Gibson (world No. 135) in a tight contest: 3-6, 7-6, 7-5.
