Back on the WTA circuit since February 17 in Dubai, Tunisian star Ons Jabeur had a difficult beginning in California.
On the night of Thursday to Friday, Jabeur and her German partner Jule Niemeier were defeated in the round of 32 by the American Nicole Melichar and Hungarian Timea Babos. Despite a strong fight, they lost in three sets: 1-6, 7-6 [7-5], 4-10, after 1 hour and 32 minutes of play.
Nicknamed the “Minister of Happiness”, Jabeur will now shift her focus to the singles competition, where she is set to face Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska (world No. 46) in the round of 64 on Friday at 9:00 PM (Tunisian time). The Indian Wells tournament is a WTA 1000 event, making it a key challenge for the Tunisian star.
