1000 Days of Russian Invasion of Ukraine: Message from Ambassador of Ukraine in Tunisia, Volodymyr Khomanets

On November 19, Ukraine marks a sad anniversary – the 1000th day since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian people demonstrated their heroism, unity and invincibility during these days of resistance to the full-scale Russian invasion and its aggression.

Ukrainians demonstrated their readiness to fight for their freedom, independence and democratic values. This is not only the struggle for Ukraine, but also – for protecting the principles of freedom and independence for all nations, which is general to the mankind as a whole.

During these 1000 days Ukrainian forces liberated more than 15,000 square kilometers of territories, initially occupied by the enemy, including key cities and villages in the east and south of the country.

By its resistance Ukraine makes its own, difficult and painful, contribution to the global security. The war against Ukraine is a challenge not only for one country. Russian aggression undermines the foundations of international law and security.

The resistance of Ukraine has become a symbol of the struggle for freedom for many peoples. It gives an impulse to fight against dictatorships and totalitarian regimes.

Ukraine has a clear vision and concrete strategy on how to win.

We prepared the solid Victory Plan to restore comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

The aim of this Victory Plan is to make Ukraine strong enough to end the war no later than next year.

To stop this war Ukraine is going to hold the Second Global Peace Summit very soon which will be based on the Victory Plan. We invite Tunisian side to participate in this international event.

The First Global Peace Summit which was held in June this year in Switzerland demonstrated the unity of the international community. More than 100 countries and international organizations supported the results of this Summit.

It is a clear signal to Russia that the world does not support Russias war of aggression, and the majority of countries support Ukraine.

Despite the war Ukraine and Tunisia continue maintain strong political, economic and cultural bilateral relations. I’m particularly pleased to note that, despite the Russian aggression, Ukraine is gradually restoring the volumes of its exports to Tunisia, mainly food products, to pre-war indicators. Significantly that in last year, Ukraine ranked the first place among the countries-suppliers of grain production to the Tunisian local market.

Ukraine pays a great attention to developing trustable and friendly relations s with all countries at the African continent. Remarkable that just within one year Ukraine almost doubled its diplomatic presence in Africa by opening the new 7 embassies.

Taking this opportunity let me address also a few words to friendly Tunisian people because we share common values – independence and freedom. Being inspired by the famous Tunisian poet – a symbol of resistance – Abou el Kacem Chebbi, I’m confident in Ukrainian victory. Independence and freedom must be always protected. At the end good always triumphs over evil.

I would like to finish by expressing my sincere wish to the friendly Tunisian people to enjoy peace, prosperity and success!
