5.6-magnitude earthquake hits Japan southern islands

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 shook the island chain in Japan known as Ryukyu at 10:32 UTC, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported on Friday.

The quake’s epicentre was recorded 327 kilometres north-northeast of Okinawa city, with a population of 125,000 inhabitants, and 39 km away from Tatsugo town. The earthquake hit at a depth of 29 kilometres.
