5 US soldiers killed in plane crash in Mediterranean

Five United States service members lost their lives in the eastern Mediterranean Sea as their aircraft crashed during a routine air refueling mission for military training, the Pentagon announced.

The US military withheld the crewmembers’ identities, following standard procedure, until their next of kin were notified. “Search and rescue efforts began immediately, including nearby US military aircraft and ships,” the statement read, noting that all onboard the aircraft were killed.
