500,000 people displaced due to Pakistan floods

Pakistani National Disaster Management Authority said on Saturday that around half a million people have been displaced due to heavy floods in the country since mid-June. The officials also added there are close to 1,200 casualties, among whom 400 are children. Overall, the disaster has affected nearly 33 million citizens.

Earlier this week, Pakistan and the United Nations (UN) applied for $160 million dollars in emergency aid, while the country’s authorities are providing humanitarian assistance to the affected areas.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is expected to visit Pakistan next week.
