AFCON 2023-Egypt snatch 2-2 draw against Mozambique

Mozambique has never won a match in the African Cup of Nations. Undoubtedly, the feat was almost possible in 2024 and against whom, against Egypt, the finalist of the last edition.

Egypt scored a stoppage-time penalty via Mohammed Salah to rescue a 2-2 draw against Mozambique in the Africa Cup of Nations Sunday.

Eager not to miss their beginning, the Egyptians did not reassure their supporters, who only had to wait 4 minutes before marking the opening score thanks to Mostapha Mohammad while the adversary was able to pull away to reverse the situation from the 55th minute of play via striker Witiness Chimoio João Quembo (watch video) then through Clésio Palmirim David Baúque, 3 minutes later (watch video).

It was in added time and thanks to a penalty from Mo Salah (90+7′ – video), that Egypt preserved its honour and lost its first points of the tournament.

The same Félix Houphouët-Boigny stadium (Abidjan) will host the second match of this 2nd group, between Ghana and Cape Verde.
