AFCON 2024 – Gr B: Cape Verde defeats Mozambique 3-0 (video)

At the Félix-Houphouët-Boigny Stadium (45,000 seats)  in the Plateau commune of Abidjan, the first match on Friday between Cape Verde and Mozambique, counting for the second day of the CAN group stage 2024, ended with a win for the Blue Sharks (3-0).

It was in the 32nd minute of the game that Cape Verdean striker Bebé opened the scoring with a magnificent free-kick and a powerful shot taken about 35 meters from the opposing goal (see video). This is a superb goal, probably the best at the start of this AFCON.

The second goal was scored by midfielder Ryan Mendes (51′) before Kevin Lenini closed the offensive festival with a 3rd goal.

A deserved success for the Blue Sharks who impressed by creating multiple chances and thus validating their qualification for the round of 16, in pole position with 6 points.

Solid defensively and sharp on the counter, the Mambas of Mozambique may have finished surprising since their last match will take place against the Pharaohs who should win to qualify.
