AFCON 2024-South Africa defeats Morroco 2-0

South Africa qualified for the quarter-finals of the AFCON after defeating Morocco (2-0). For the 7th time in 16 appearances, the South Africans will partake in the quarter-finals of the African Cup.

Bafana Bafana received this privilege by going out to the Moroccans in the round of 16 this Tuesday evening at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro (20,000 seats). The Hugo Broos squad, who had eliminated Tunisia in the first round, did the hardest part part by scoring twice thanks to the Orlando Pirates striker, Evidence Makgopa then the Mamelodi striker Sundowns Teboho Mokoena doubled the lead in the extra time.

There was a jump from the Atlas Lions for the rest, but it was not important enough to pick up the score. Achraf Hakimi failed to counteract the score on a penalty in the 85th. At ten against 11 after Amrabat’s red card, the Moroccan team then had a few equalizing balls but amassed them, to the great displeasure of Walid Regragui.

In the next round, South Africa will meet Cape Verde on the evening of Saturday, February 3 from 9:00 p.m. (HT).
