Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara stated in a speech on Sunday evening, March 9, 2025, that Syria will not be dragged into a civil war, following recent developments in the Syrian coastal region.
He added that Syria is facing the threat of “remnants of the previous regime” and revealed the formation of a high committee for national reconciliation, stressing that the only option for these remnants is immediate surrender.
Al-Shara further clarified that there will be no tolerance for the remnants of the previous regime, and those involved in shedding the blood of civilians will be held accountable.
He also condemned any foreign calls for intervention in Syria’s internal affairs or any efforts to sow discord, remarking that efforts would be made to communicate with the people in the Syrian coastal region to listen to their concerns.
On his part, Hassan Al-Dghaem, spokesman for the National Dialogue Conference, stated that transitional justice is the objective behind the military movement towards the Syrian coast.
He added that the goal of the remnants of the regime is to disrupt national reconciliation and incite division, explaining that a fact-finding committee will investigate all violations.
In a brief speech at Al-Akram Mosque in the Mezzeh area of Damascus early on Sunday, Al-Shara called for preserving national reconciliation and unity.
He also explained that the events in the coastal region were “part of the expected challenges,” referring to the efforts by the “remnants of the regime” to stir discord and confusion.
