A major fire in Cairo destroyed the 80-year-old Al-Ahram Studio in Cairo’s Giza district wounding 4 people, two members of the civil protection forces and two other civilians.
Security forces evacuated several apartments near the site, while the Health Ministry announced a state of emergency at Giza hospitals.
The Interior Ministry closed entrances and exits to the site, and all gas valves in the Omraniyah region were locked to stop a more serious crisis.
Civil Protection sent today Saturday, at dawn, more than 12 fire trucks to control the huge fire which broke out in the famous studio, where the filming of scenes from the series ” The Teacher” by artist Mustafa Shaaban.
Firefighters went to great lengths to control the fire which ravaged a group of studios and residential apartments surrounding the venue.
The authorities formed an engineering committee to determine the causes and circumstances of the accident and submit a detailed report immediately after the end of firefighting operations.
Al-Ahram Studio was founded in 1944 and built on 27,000 square metres (290,625 square feet) containing three production stages, a screening room, and an editing suite.
