Algeria announces presidential election for December 12

Algeria‘ interim Abdelkader Bensalah president announced that Algeria will be conducting its presidential elections on 12 of December.

I have decided that the date of the presidential election will be Thursday, December 12,” said Abdelkader Bensalah.

The official news arrives promptly after army chief General Ahmed Gaid Salah, seen as Algeria’s strongman following the marked fall of Bouteflika, emphasised that polls be held by the end of 2019, notwithstanding continuing demonstrations asking the creation of new institutions ahead of any elections.
