Algerian presidential elections: One of candidates denounces violations

As the turnout in the presidential elections held yesterday Saturday in Algeria reached 48%, one of the three candidates condemned violations. The campaign of candidate Abdel Ali Hassani Sharif, leader of the “Society for Peace” movement, reported on Sunday that it had documented violations during the voting process.
Campaign manager Ahmed Sadok said in a statement that “pressure was exercised on some polling station administrators to inflate the results, and that “the counting reports were not given to the candidates’ representatives, in addition to the collective vote by the agencies,” emphasising that these were “old practices” that could have been avoided. The campaign also underscored that it would clarify later, after the announcement of the first results, all the circumstances surrounding the electoral process and its possible results.
