Algiers: 16-Month-Old Baby with Down Syndrome Tragically Burned to Death by Parents

An Algerian couple in their thirties were placed in pretrial detention by the investigating judge at the Dar El Beïda court, after a complaint filed by their neighbour accusing them of torturing their 16-month-old infant.

During a search of their house, law enforcement found the baby’s body with signs of serious violence, including blows, bites, and burns.

During the investigation, the parents confessed to torturing their baby, citing the desire to get rid of the “burden of having a child with Down syndrome.”
