Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Friday dissolved the country’s National Assembly, Aliyev’s press service said in a statement.
According to the statement, the head of state also scheduled early parliamentary elections for September 1.
Regular elections were originally programmed for November, but the ruling New Azerbaijan Party proposed to dissolve the national parliament and hold snap elections in order to avoid coinciding with the COP29 environmental summit to take place in Azerbaijan in November.
