April 7 marks World Health Day,honors nurses on the front line

World Health Day is in part a commemoration of the establishment of the World Health Organization (WHO) on April 7, 1948.

The first World Health Assembly took place by the WHO in 1948. It selected to commemorate April 7 as World Health Day with effect from the year 1950. On World Health Day, the health authorities from various countries take part in celebrations and promise to assist on diverse health issues worldwide

World Health Day is one of the global health campaigns by the WHO, along with World Immunization Week, World Malaria Day, World No Tobacco Day, World AIDS Day, World Blood Donor Day, World Hepatitis Day and World Tuberculosis Day.

The theme for World Health Day 2020 is to support nurses and midwives. WHO chose the year 2020 as the “Year of the Nurse and Midwife” because of the contribution which nurses and midwives are making in making the world a healthier place.
