United States Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin insisted on Tuesday that Russian troops deliberately attacked civilian targets in Ukraine, vowing Kiev’s allies will stay united in supporting its defenses as long as it takes.
“We stand united in our support for Ukraine’s fight for freedom, and we will stand together united and resolute for as long as it takes,” Austin told reporters following his meeting with the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in Brussels.
Commenting on the situation at the front as the war neared its first anniversary, Austin asserted the West will help Ukraine launch a counter-offensive in the spring. The secretary’s remarks come after multiple NATO countries pledged new military help for Ukraine, including tanks and other combat vehicles.
