Speaking with Tunisie Numérique, Assistant Secretary General of the General University of Basic Education Iqbal Al-Azabi announced that the sectoral administrative body had decided to execute a series of demonstrations across regional delegations before the start of the school year. These rallies will culminate in a national “Day of Anger” in front of the Ministry of Education, followed by a nationwide strike scheduled after the school year begins.
Azabi clarified that these protest actions are in reaction to several professional demands and the Ministry of Education’s failure to fulfil its commitments made with the General University of Basic Education. He remarked that the Ministry has not implemented the agreements signed with the university.
He stressed that the most pressing issues previously agreed upon but not yet addressed include the reinstatement of exempted principals, the abolition of precarious employment, the resolution of issues involving substitute teachers, and the fulfilment of demands outlined in the 2022 professional regulations, such as those related to purchasing power and other concerns.
The Assistant Secretary-General urged the Ministry of Education to engage in serious negotiations and to activate the deals reached in the minutes of March 1 and April 3.
