Baerbock: ICJ ruling on Rafah must be respected

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said on Monday that the ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding Israel’s offensive in Rafah is “binding and must be respected.” The court ordered Israel on Friday to immediately stop any military operations in Rafah in southern Gaza citing “immense risk” to the Palestinian population.

Baerbock added that the German government supports the possibility of re-establishing the European Union Border Assistance Mission at the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt. The mission was launched in 2005 but was suspended in 2007 and has been on stand-by since.
