Bernardo Arevalo sworn in as president of Guatemala

Bernardo Arevalo took the oath of office on Monday as Guatemala’s new president, following a nine-hour delay by the Congress without providing any explanation for the postponement.

Further, Karin Herrera was also sworn in as vice president. The inauguration day was marred by protests as demonstrators alleged that there was a coup attempt by members of parliament who aimed to obstruct Arevalo’s inauguration.
