The move comes amid intense criticism from the American Muslim community concerning the president’s unconditional support for the Israeli offensive in Gaza.

A spokesperson, Karine Jean-Pierre, admitted during a press conference that the president would have a “working meeting” with leaders of the Muslim community, who desired a “private” nature for this meeting. Afterwards, a “small” fast-breaking ceremony is scheduled with Muslim members of his administration.
A comprehensive choice:
Jean-Pierre clarifies that this modification of the format is a response to the request of members of the Muslim community. “That’s what they wanted and we understand that,” he emphasised. In earlier years, the White House had been the scene of large Eid celebrations with hundreds of guests and speeches from the president.
Controversy and protest:
The decision comes as outrage continues within the American Muslim community over Biden’s Middle East policy. Accusing him of contributing to the agony of the Palestinians through his support for Israel, protests with signs accusing Biden of “genocidal” take place regularly during his travels.
Political repercussions:
Biden’s stance on Israel likewise had political repercussions during the primaries in Michigan, a key state with a large Muslim community. In February, during those primaries, tens of thousands of voters voiced their protest by voting blank, potentially signaling challenges for Biden in his campaign for a second term in the November presidential election.
