Brazil’s ban on X comes into force

Social media app X is no longer available to some users in Brazil. Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes blocked the platform in the culmination of a months-long legal battle. The judge also imposed a fine on any users accessing X via a virtual private network (VPN).

According to the AFP, users attempting to open the X site in their browsers are told to “reload the browser without being able to log in successfully.” X has claimed the ban was imposed because it refused to “censor the political opponents” of Judge De Moraes.
