Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva was admitted to a hospital on Friday to undergo hip surgery.
The president arrived at the Sirio-Libanes clinic in Brasilia early in the morning and is anticipated to stay in the hospital until next Tuesday. Later, Lula will spend three weeks in the presidential residence recovering.
The two-hour surgery will be performed under general anaesthesia, with the purpose of implanting a femoral head prosthesis.
