Breaking news-Donald Trump acquitted of abuse of power in Senate impeachment trial

Donald Trump has been acquitted in his Senate trial on one article of impeachment and was headed for acquittal on the second, ending the threat that he would be removed from office and concluding the impeachment process.

Voting largely along party lines, the senators found Trump not guilty of the first article of impeachment, abuse of power, by a 52-48 tally. They were proceeding to a vote on the second article of impeachment, obstruction of Congress.

Trump became the third president in US history to be impeached by the House of Representatives but acquitted in a Senate trial. A two-thirds majority of 67 senators would have been required to remove him.
