French President Emmanuel Macron has announced new lockdown measures for France as the country reported more than 36,000 new cases in the past 24 hours.
Macron maintained that under the new measures, beginning on Friday, people would only be permitted to leave home for fundamental work or medical reasons.
Non-essential businesses, such as restaurants and bars, will shut down, but schools and factories will remain open.
He further affirmed the country endangered of being “overwhelmed by a second wave that no doubt will be harder than the first”.
The president said that people would require to fill in a form to verify leaving their homes, as was required in the initial lockdown in March.
