Breaking news: Global coronavirus death toll surpass 900,000

More than 900,000 cases of coronavirus have been officially detected worldwide since the pandemic emerged in China late last year, according to an AFP tally at 21h30 GMT on Wednesday using official sources.

 

 In total, 900,052 deaths have been recorded worldwide out of 27,711,866 reported cases. Latin America and the Caribbean is the most affected region with 300,340 dead, ahead of Europe (219,616), and more than half of global Covid-19 deaths have been recorded in four countries: the United States (190,478 ), Brazil (127,464), India (73,890) and Mexico (68,484).
