Speaking with Tunisie Numérique,Assistant Secretary General of the General Union of Basic Education Tawfik Chebbi, confirmed that a series of demonstrations have been carried out in several regions, the latest of which was today in Gabes, Tunis and Sousse.
Chebbi noted that these protests will culminate in a national day of anger on September 11, in coordination with the secondary education sector. The protests are pushed by the violation of union rights, arising from the lack of negotiation and dialogue between the Ministry of Education and the social party since the tenure of the previous minister. Further, the protests address the poor working conditions within educational establishments, including dilapidated infrastructure, the absence of necessary equipment, and the lack of potable water in several schools.
He stated that these protests are also fueled by the exclusion of the social party from the preparations to fill vacancies, which has led to overcrowded classrooms and a substantial increase in the use of the team-teaching system., particularly in rural areas, in addition to the breach of agreements and minutes of meetings and the failure to activate them by the Ministry of Supervision, and also the drop in the financial situation of teachers. Our speaker explained that the day of anger will be on September 11 and there will be a gathering in front of the Ministry of Education .It is also scheduled to go on strike after the return to school if the Ministry of Education continues its intransigence and the absence of the social side in everything related to educational affairs and the affairs of teachers.
