Chile plane with 38 on-board disappears on its way to Antarctica

Chile’s air force proclaimed it has lost radio connection with a plane carrying 38 people on a flight to the country’s base in Antarctica.
The cargo plane, classified as a Hercules C130, departed from the southern city of Punta Arenas at 4:55 p.m. local time (1955 GMT). Operators lost contact with the aircraft a little over an hour later.
“The plane is presumed to have crashed, given that the amount of fuel and the plane’s autonomy had already run out. Given that, it is already assumed that the plane has crashed,” said Gen. Francisco Torres in a televised press conference.
President Sebastian Pinera announced he and Interior Minister Gonzalo Blumel would fly to Punta Arenas where they would meet up with Defense Minister Alberto Espina to observe a search and rescue mission to discover the missing plane and its passengers.
