China to provide 1B more vaccine doses for Africa

Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday that his country will supply African countries with 1 billion more doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

Speaking virtually at the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, Xi stressed that 600 million doses will be donated, while 400 million will be provided through joint production by Chinese firms and African countries.

The Chinese president expressed hope the move will help the African Union achieve a vaccination rate of 60% by 2022.
